![]() | Often, bridge or tower cranes are working im overlapping areas. Crane operators must concentrate on the load and have to be warned automatically when a potential collision situation is detected. | ![]() |
Sensors for collision avoidance are indispensable to protect persons and assets. If persons could be injured in case of a collision, redundant and fail- safe distance measurement as well as signal processing in accordance with the corresponding safety regulations is a must.
Symeo LPR: maintenance-free anti-collision sensors
Two LPR-1DXi or LPR-1DX units are required for distance measurement. In case of a neccessary redundancy, this set-up is just duplicated. Each pair of LPR units determines the distance completely independent and unaffected from the other. With a selection of suitable antennas, the distance can be determined exactly even if the 2 objects are not operating on the same height level and / or with a side offset.

If certain areas below the crane should be temporaryly or permanently blocked for crane access, LPR-1DP2 is applied to continuously monitor the trolley position. The size of the no-go areas can be set by user parameters. Approaching such an area, first the warning relay (dry contact) will be opened as a slow down signal. Upon reaching the hard border of the stop zone, a further relay will be opened to indicate the stop signal for the respective driving direction.

For more complex crane layouts with sveral cranes on one or more layers, LPR-1D sensors can be combined with the monitoring and control software Symeo AntiColl. The position of all cranes are continuously monitored and AntiColl transfers this data to all connected LPR devices. Each LPR unit on a crane will open respective relay contacts to slow down or stop, depending on warning and stop distances set by the user.

Measurement with LPR sensors is contact-free with no wear and tear. Even under dusty conditions and in outdoor applications, LPR operates completey maintenance free.
