Low cost LPR-1DXi

17 March 2010: Symeo GmbH introduces LPR-1DXi, its latest product line that now establishes a new all-time low for precise radio distance measurement. This has been made possible by integrating the antenna and electronics of the 1DXi into a rather compact housing with only 190x190x80 mm size. Maintenance-free and highly reliable with a maximum range of 100 to 500 m and an accuracy of 50 to 5 cm, the sensors are now a very valid replacement for laser based systems. The SymeoWizard software tool allows easy and quick configuration of the units.

LPR-1DXiThe compact LPR1DXi radio sensor from Symeo GmbH measures distances 30 times per second, avoiding collisions of cranes and other machines, acquiring distances in automation and is the maintenance-free replacement for optical and electromechanical sensors. The price level for high end radio measurement in such applications is now reduced by more than 50%..

Attractive price for seasoned technology

Having the transmitter and antenna combined in one slim housing provides various advantages. Costly cables are eliminated and installation effort is minimized for the rather compact (190x190x80 mm) device. With its simplified functions, LPR-1DXi focuses on the core function: distance reading with the necessary safety and accuracy. Not every collision protection needs precision down to the centimetre, and for this reason the basic version does not provide sophisticated data interface but active relay switching based on 0.5 m distance increments.

Upgrade, if you need it

The distance range can be extended from 120 m to 500 m, with an additional option to enhance the measurement accuracy down to only five cm. Seven dry contacts, freely configurable by the user, are the standard for all models. A serial interface ensures connectivity to subsequent control devices, if so required.

Trouble-free, robust and weatherproof

Based on radio signal technology, Symeo LPR-1DXi units can be deployed indoor and outdoor under challenging conditions and are – opposite to laser and ultrasonic sensors – not affected by dusty or misaligned reflectors, steam, fog, rain or wind. Downtimes for maintenance are avoided, thus making LPR distance sensors an ideal solution for industrial processes in harsh environment.

Quick implementation

Its compact design with integrated antenna and a quick set-up procedure using the SymeoWizard software for parameterization via the USB port, get the sensors up and running in no time. Additional feature: the parameter setting for one unit in an anti-collision application can be sent to the paired unit via the on-board radio. This saves plenty of time and effort during commissioning. “The new LPR-1DXi product line was designed to meet the needs of simple anti-collision and distance measurement tasks. Our focus was on providing a cost efficient sensor, combining the robustness and reliability of existing LPR units with a minimum of installation effort. To cater for different applications, a number of range and accuracy options can be provided as an upgrade, also for units already installed in the field. In our daily business, we see LPR-1DXi replacing conventional sensors in a growing number of applications already”, explains Christoph Rommel, Managing Director of Symeo GmbH.
