Crane position acquisition as well as collision avoidance between moving equipment are typical tasks of LPR units in steel plants across the globe.|
LPR provides product location by tracking handling equipment
Continuous position measurement for slab carriers, coil handling trucks and all sorts of portal, semi-portal and overhead cranes allows the dynamic and updated assignment of product storage positions in the warehouse management database. Maitenance-free operation and high reliability are key factors for cost-efficient positioning at lowest cost of ownership.
At the time of picking up or unloading a coil or slab, the product´s position is provided in real-time to the clients logistcs control software. When retrieving an item for the next production process, it is automatically identified due to its storage position. Long search and manual scanning or reading of a product identifier is no longer required. Inventory data is constantly up-to-date, avoiding any efforts for further inventory taking.
Storage areas can be any size, indoor and/or outdoor. Ambient conditions do not affect LPR position readings.
Collision avoidance between cranes on the same runway or even in multilevel crane operations
Multiple cranes on the same runway or operating on different height levels must be protected aganst collisions to avoid damage and downtime. When controlled remotely by an operator concentrating on load handling or when the crane driver cannot see other cranes approaching, reliable distance sensors are required to provide an alert if cranes go below a certain warning distance.
