| Thousands of different products need to be traced in and retrieved from the wide-streched storage and production areas of a steel mill. Cranes and lift trucks ensure the material flow. | ![]() |
Deploying a continuous position measurement for these carriers allow the dynamic and updated assignment of storage positions in the respective inventory management system. Maitenance-free operation and high reliability are key factors for efficient positioning.
LPR sensors on cranes and transport vehicles
On buildings, fences, columns or lightpoles, transponders can be installed as reference marks with approx 400 m range. A base station on the transport vehicle or crane computes the current position and orientation.
At the time of picking up or unloading a coil or slab, the product´s position is provided in real-time to the warehouse management database. When retrieving an item for the next production process, it is automatically identified due to its storage position. Long search and manual scanning or reading of a product identifier is no longer required.
Inventory data is constantly up-to-date, avoiding any efforts for further inventory taking.
Storage areas can be any size, indoor and/or outdoor. Ambient conditions do not affect LPR position readings.
